Meenakari Coaster Set Red, Green & Blue Design - 4 Inches x 4 Inches
Product SKU : TLH-16983-7

This beautiful set of 6 square coasters of the meenakari design that comes with its own box. The coasters have been handcrafted in the royal city of Jaipur, Rajasthan. It is an elegant pick for dining table, office table, conference/meeting rooms, drawing room and excellent decor item for your home.

The genesis of the art form is said to date back to the reign of Raja Man Singh in the 17th century. At his behest, five master enamellers from Lahore came to Jaipur and began working in his court. With the loss of royal patronage in recent times, cheaper materials have been used since gold, silver and precious stones was unviable. Hence, modern meenakari work uses liquid plastic colours that are cheaper to source and easier to work with. The plastic colour is applied onto a perviously embossed metal sheet with the aid of a wooden or aluminium stick. After a colour is applied, the sheet is heated to ensure the colour fuses. Each colour is applied separately so that there is no smudge or blur.
