Product SKU : TLH-74942 5

This is a Green color Chennapatna candle holder. It is 3 inches in Diameter & 3 Inches in Height long and weighs about 92 gms. It was handcrafted by skilled artisans in the town of Chennapatna, Karnataka.

From the ancient craft of curing wood by hand, the artisans progressed to working on hand lathes. As per some sources, the origin of the art form can be traced back to Tipu Sultan who invited expert craftsmen from Persia to train the local artisans to make wooden toys and products. Traditionally they made human faces, wooden masks, animal figures and painted the temples around Chennapatna. For a while the art form was on the verge of dying out, but thanks to the intervention of the Government of Karnataka it is now a flourishing cottage industry that supports the livelihood of thousands of artisans.
